SPRING SEASON – January 13th, 2026 – May 2026 (exact end date varies)
Manatee County Youth Rowing for Middle School students (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) is for anyone interested in rowing or learning more about rowing. You will be part of a team and focus on learning the best techniques for rowing both on land and in the water. The Middle School program is less intense than the High School program, but the focus is on developing the individual through teamwork, leadership, athletic conditioning, good nutrition, and community service.

- Download and complete sport physical. A hard copy must be turned into MCYR Coaches by the start of the season.
- Join US Rowing as an Individual Championship Member (www.usrowing.org).
What are the fees/cost of joining?
One Payment in Full – Spring Season Program
- $1,340 — (Sibling $1,273)
Monthly Payments – Spring Season Program
- 4 monthly payments of $368.50 — (Sibling $349.97)
What is the practice schedule?
Tuesday & Thursday
4:45 PM – 6:30 PM
Friday (at the request of coaches)
4:45 PM – 6:30 PM
Saturday
7:00 AM -10:00 AM
What are the conditions of membership?
- Payment of Fees: Non-payment of fees can result in forfeiture of MCYR privileges
- Adherence to: MCYR policies and safety rules set forth in the handbook
- Volunteering: Volunteers are the basis of a successful program. Every parent is expected to volunteer
- US Rowing Member: Every athlete must be in good standing with a signed waiver
Where is practice located?
Fort Hamer Boat Ramp, 1605 Fort Hamer Rd. Parrish, FL 34219
Parents are kindly asked to drop off athletes at least 5 minutes before practice starts and be at the facility within 5 minutes of practice ending for pick up. Repeated late drop-offs/pick-ups may result in additional fees.
What should athletes bring to practice?
- Flip flops or water shoes
- Running shoes with dry socks
- Towel
- Two (2) 7/16”, two (2) 10 mm, and one (1) adjustable wrench
- Change of dry clothes
- WATER! Each rower is responsible to bring his or her own water each day. For health reasons, drinking from another rower’s water bottle with or without permission is prohibited.
- Practice clothing must include spandex shorts and a sports shirt (no loose-fitting clothing in the boats)
What is the commitment like?
Both athletes and parents should commit to practice, race day regattas, and volunteering. MCYR relies on parent volunteers. There are many ways to volunteer, when there is a need the MCYR Board will reach out to those parents not volunteering on their own. Please step up before being asked.
